Given all the hype about the trophy surrounding the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT and the frankly ridiculous numbers, it is capable when the planets line up, it is fitting that our first date with the coupe de Horses of 1000 specimens was set for Lucas Oil Raceway’s famous quarter mile track.
If the basic car needs a thing, maybe maybe it could use a little more tire. You know, a safety blanket so as to give the front a little more grip to turn and stop, and the rear the ability to accept a more power key on the corner exit. Dodge agrees. And, with the new Demon Street tractor, it turned out that there were 20 x 11 inch wheels and fender horns available in the coin tray (for fun, Have also added the front divider of Demon). A quick call to Pirelli for P5-Zero 305 / 35R20 tires and the Hellcat Widebody was born.
The cynic might call this an extra-add-on forced to try to compete with the routes more focused on the Camaro and Mustang trail, but this is simply not the case. For proof, look carefully at what SRT did not do. Spring rates, shock absorbers, anti-roll bars, steering and brakes are all carried over from standard Hellcat. True, the management is now electric assistant, but it is there to make different driving modes available, not to create a serious track car.
The Demon will be an upgraded version of the popular SRT Hellcat that will utilize a wider stance and design that cuts 200 pounds of weight in order to get better performance. It will be powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that will produce 840 horsepower and 770 pound-feet of torque (up to 707 hp in the standard Hellcat). The Demon is functionally designed to operate at the local drag band. The car has a single seat, no rear seat or space for a front passenger. Dodge says that at 45.2 square feet, the scoop of the car is the largest on any production car. The car will enjoy the title of the fastest production car in the world with a sprint of 0 to 60 km / h in less than 2.3 seconds.
Other Challenger variants should generally take the same form as the 2017 model. The basic engine is a 3.6-liter V6 engine making 305 hp with 268 lb-ft, although a popular alternative is a HEMI V8 of 5, 7 liters producing 375 hp with 410 lb-ft. In the R / T 392 and SRT 392, a 6.4-liter V8 made 485 hp with 475 lb-ft. Transmission choices are unclear at this point, but we believe most Challengers will continue to have an automatic 8-spd (or 6-spd) manual. Competitors flew to 10-spd gearboxes for increased performance and efficiency.
The 2018 Dodge Challenger starts at $ 71,495. The dealers’ order opens in July, with deliveries starting in the third quarter of this year.
