The new 2018 Mazda CX-5 was released earlier this year with some improvements over its predecessor. It should be mentioned that it is not entirely a new car. Instead, Mazda decided to further refine the old chassis. This means that it is always based on the same SkyActiv platform as before. The wheelbase was shortened very slightly while the track was slightly enlarged. The end result should be a better crossover of handling without having to compromise on anything. In addition to these changes, Mazda also stiffened the chassis by 15% and installed a new acoustic insulation. This includes an additional set of gaskets for doors, more material on the floor as well as a thicker glass around the car.
Engine of New Mazda CX-5 2018
The basic model of the 2018 CX 5 will toggle the same engine to 2.0 liters naturally aspirated as before. This gas powertrain is currently good for 155 horsepower and 150 lb.-ft. of torque, which is barely average. For those who are looking for more, Mazda will also offer the largest 2.5-liter natural suction mill for up to 184 horsepower and 185 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines will be available with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. Generally, the car will come with front-wheel drive while an all-wheel-drive system will be offered as an option. Both engines were rated for an average of about 30 MPG, which is better than the average of their class. However, both suffer from not having enough power, so when driven at regular speeds, these engines are not as efficient as they should.
The 2018 Mazda CX-5 will receive a third engine option. This will be Mazda well-known 2.2-liter turbocharged line 4 SkyActiv diesel. This engine has been available in Europe for a while, and it is the most efficient diesel on the market. The engine currently makes 173 horsepower and a massive 310 lb-ft of torque at less than 2,000 rpm. Due to this enormous amount of torque, this should fit perfectly with the relaxed character of the CX 5. One of the main advantages of having diesel is the highway’s energy efficiency that should improve after 40 MPG making the CX 5 the most efficient car in its class.
2018 Mazda CX-5 Changes
At first glance, you may think that the next 2018 Mazda CX-5 looks like the one of the existing model. However, at the second glance, you can see some subtle changes in the design. The cabin is expected to be sumptuous and spacious enough. As with the existing model, the CX-5 2018 should be equipped with several cabin storage options such as cup holders and a large center console. The cargo space should be decent, but here the CX-5 is overtaken by some rivals. Overall, the new model will be as light as the existing one. It will be made in 4 fittings, in all likelihood.
The Mazda CX-5 2018 will be loaded with the latest infotainment features and security technologies. The trimmings will have a touch screen infotainment system with a 7-inch display.
