2020 BMW M8 – There is a new series 8 to come, and this time BMW M will launch its own high-performance version of the car: the M8.
We now have new photos and videos of some M8 prototypes tested at the ‘Ring. The car looks like the first prototypes we saw for the regular 8 series although there are some differences.
The laser headlights are now exposed and under these are much larger shots. Openings on the sidewalls suggest a vertical vent on the trailing edge of the front fenders, while at the rear is the characteristic quadruple arrangement of the M division for the exhaust tips. One of the shots also shows the M8 next to an M3, revealing how much the M8 will be bigger and more imposing compared to its little brother. This is helped by massive wheels and tires.
A look inside reveals a layout that closely follows the design announced in the concept of Series 8 unveiled in May 2017 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy.
The power of the 2020 BMW M8 Convertible models, meanwhile, come from the famous double-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 BMW. In the new 2018 M5 that was unveiled Monday, the engine is tuned to deliver 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. It is possible that a little more power is extracted from the engine for the M8 service.
Series 8 production will take place at BMW’s main plant in Dingolfing, Germany, probably from the end of 2018 or the beginning of the following year. That means we should see the car introduced in 2019, as a 2020 model. The rivals will include the Lexus LC, the Maserati GranTurismo and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe.
